All about Giron Cuba

Playa Giron

Playa Giron or in English Giron beach is a village on the east bank of the Bahia de Cochinos made famous by the infamous Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba. Located in the province of Matanzas, few consider that the Matanzas province straddles the width of Cuba, meaning it has both northern and southern coastline.

To the north Matanzas offers the famous Varadero Beach and, on the southern coast of Cuba, it offers Giron as municipality of Cienaga de Zapata. Playa Giron is located on one of the largest wetlands in the world. Not unlike the topography of Southern Florida, the Cienaga de Zapata or Zapata Swamp offers a diverse biosphere and is largely untouched. The village of Giron was named after the notorious French pirate Gilberto Giron.
